Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Delay Time Calculator (DTC) calculates delay times in milliseconds and
frequency modulation values in Hertz for a song tempo in 'beats per minute',
for a frequency value, or for a measure duration and signature.
There are many uses for this utility, for example calculation of
 - pre-delay times for reverbs
 - delay times for software or hardware effects without tempo sync
 - frequency modulation values that fit a song tempo,
   eg. for synthesizer or filter LFOs, modulation effects like chorus,
   flanger, phaser, vibrato, tremolo, you name it.
Ok, enough. Now make some music ;)
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~

There is none. Just run 'dtc.exe'.

Note that DTC writes its settings to a file called 'dtc.ini' which in the
same folder as 'dtc.exe', but that's about it when it comes to cluttering
your system. Nothing is written to the registry, or anywhere else.

DTC runs off USB sticks / thumb drives.

DTC does not require any special privileges.

DTC works well on Windows XP, 2000, Vista, 7, 8, both 32 and 64-bit.

DTC is unsupported on Windows versions prior to 2000, ie. 95, 98, ME, NT 4.

I highly recommend pinning DTC to your taskbar, or putting it into your
'Quick Launch' toolbar, for easy access at any time.

How to tempo-tap correctly
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tap SPACE on quarter notes.
Tap SPACE at least ten times until the value begins to stabilize.
For better results continue tapping until you have narrowed down the tempo
to a reasonable value.
If you feel like the values just don't seem to make sense anymore press
BACKSPACE on a first beat instead of SPACE and then continue tapping with
SPACE. This way you can integrate the tap reset rhythmically.
In case you are having problems getting into the rhythm (eg. when you try
to match a record's tempo) it might help to push the SPACE bar a little harder
so you can actually hear your key presses.
It might also help if you just listen to the music and concentrate on the key
presses or clicks instead of staring at the screen ;)
Good to know
~~~~~~~~~~~~

You don't need to use the mouse to control DTC. Every feature has a shortcut.

Press the ESCAPE key (ESC) anywhere to close the program.

Press TAB to go to next edit box, press SHIFT-TAB to go to previous one.

Use UP and DOWN arrow keys inside tempo, frequency, and measure edit boxes
to quick-step values.

Check 'Frequencies' or press F to toggle frequency modulation values in Hertz
instead of delay times in milliseconds.

Check 'Keep decimals' or press D to keep trailing decimal zeroes.

Check 'Stay on top' or press T to keep the tool the top-most window. This
is especially useful to have because it keeps the DTC afloat on top your
DAW application while you're working on your mixes.

Check 'Commas' or press C to switch between different comma representations.

Left-click the 'Tap' button to tap tempo.

Right-click the 'Tap' button to restart tempo tapping with the first beat.

Press SPACE or NUMPAD+ anywhere in the program to tap tempo.

Press BACKSPACE or NUMPAD- when inside tempo edit box to restart tempo
tapping with the first beat.

After a few seconds of not doing anything (typically two seconds) the tempo
value is considered final. A subsequent tap (either by mouse or by keyboard)
then restarts tempo tapping with the first beat.

Click on grid cells to copy their content to the clipboard. The copied text
flashes red to indicate that it was copied properly.

Cmdline parameters
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can start DTC using these additional command-line parameters:
 /tempo:<bpm>       Set initial tempo value in bpm.
                    eg. dtc /tempo:95.5
 /freq:<hz>         Set initial frequency value in Hertz.
                    eg. dtc /freq:1.667
